Everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame; sometimes these 15 minutes are captured by the media and posted online. Every professional should be worried about their online reputation as well as look for opportunities to positively boosting that reputation. Here are my two suggestions regarding capturing online videos such as new coverage:
1) Link directly to the source from your website. Not only will the credibility of the source of the video confirm the validity of the video, but this could also be a great opportunity to improve your SEO rankings. Improve your site’s SEO ranking by engaging in link exchanging, the media source want to provide their readers/viewers with more information about individuals mentioned in the video and you want to promote their video. Win-Win.
2) Add a copy to YouTube and keep a back up for your site. YouTube is a great opportunity for both Local and National recognition. YouTube offers an outlet to share videos easily through the web as well as a venue to promote your videos. You can easily upload the video on YouTube, track it’s “performance”, embed it on your site, and allow for quick spread using tags and keywords. I would also advise to keep a back up copy of the video for later use; YouTube might not be the best option for you and your personal reputation. Having a standalone video on your site could be more beneficial depending on your situation. A rule to always follow – Backup whenever possible!
