Action Required: Email Subscription Expires Soon!

Wow! Can you believe it is already the middle of August? The hot summer weather is transforming into cool mornings with warm, sun filled days. We are approaching my second favorite times of the year, fall. (Second only to spring)

Today, an unexpected email made its way to my inbox: Email Subscription Expiration Notice. The email looked something like this:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for signing up to receive emails from _________! We haven’t heard from you in a while, so we just wanted to check in and remind you the benefits of being a subscriber:

Interested in continuing to receive valuable emails from __________?

  • Yes, keep sending me emails.

No longer interested? That’s okay, we respect your privacy.

  • I no longer wish to receive emails from __________.

Thank you,

The ___________ Team

The Story Behind the Email

About 9 months ago an individual signed up for this email subscription, but never clicked through or purchased anything. The company is now sending this email providing an opportunity for the subscriber to either opt-in again, or opt-out once and for all.

The Benefits of this Marketing Method

  • Save marketing dollars by sending emails to subscribers who actually find your emails useful.
  • Combat spam, most users will not take the time to unsubscribe from email and would rather move the email to a spam folder or even block the sender.
  • Showing general interest for the consumer, just by showing you are interested in their relationship and that you notice their behaviors.

Thanks to a colleague for sharing bringing this to my attention. Sharing is truly a skill that should be on ones resume.
