Lessons from the Beer Vendor.

There is nothing more that I like then spending some time with friends. Last time was no exception. The Cleveland Indians where playing in Detroit against the Detroit Tigers and it just so happens that a friend asked me to tag along and enjoy the experience. A few things to take into consideration 1) I usually do not enjoy watching sports of any kind, 2) my knowledge on the subject is limited, 3) I did not know I was going to be standing outside hiding in the bushes aside the Cleveland Indian’s tour bus.

The evening starts off a bit rough with a tornado warning, a few raindrops and a detour. All in all leading up to an exciting night.

All stories have a point. While sitting watching the batters swing at the ball being pitched to them I noticed that the many, many bright yellow vendors selling various items from beer to peanuts and hot dogs. One thing in particular I noticed was that the different beer vendors each had their own method of sales, from announcing their arrival and their goods to the execution of the product. The most interesting point was how one vendor consolidated the whole sales process. Starting with announcing his arrival and products offering, “Ice Cold Beer,” short and sweet. Next his quick delivery, handing multi-customer request at once. And my favorite part he used a tool to help open the cans in two places on the top before pouring into the plastic cups. Genius! Saves time, beer pours quicker and less foam!

I know I know. I am amused with the simplest things. Take these lessons from the Beer Vendor any way you would like. Efficiencies can be anywhere.
